Clutter relief

This article is about a very interesting item. It allows you to save movies and TV shows and transfer them into your ipod or USB drive, making them portable and relieving you from having ugly cabinets full of DVDs sitting in your living room.

IT issues at SIT

It seems as if the one place that needs the most help with managing the IT department is here (SIT); I have not been able to have reliable internet service in my dorm since the beginning of the year. First, I accidentally ripped the ethernet jack off the wall back in October. Well, it was just fixed this January. The jack was re-connected and everything looked fine but the internet was not working. They finally came back and fixed the problem not too long ago and I even got a new ethernet cable that was long enough to reach my desk. Well, the ethernet still didn't work; but, somehow, I was able to pick up a wireless signal. Last week that wireless signal malfunctioned and my internet connection went down the drain. I called again and this time they came to my dorm the day after I called. They fixed the port but my cable stopped working; I was given a new cable. The new cable fixed the issue, but it is too short and cannot reach my desk. I am now waiting for a super long cable.
I really wish that they we could have a better-managed IT department. Or more manpower to handle our needs. I have known of many people having internet issues in their dormitories. This is unacceptable and should be better addressed. Argh!

Goals

Professional goals, wow, I am sure that we all have so many. At the moment, my main professional goals are to learn as much as I possibly can here at SIT and to be able to get a real job instead of an internship; working preferably in the for-profit sector. One very important piece of this goal is that I want to have the opportunity to apply everything that I have learned and everything that I am currently learninig in my classes. I am contemplating getting in to the Human Resources field because after taking the HR Management class, I learned how the industry has been changing and how the role of Human Resources Managers has become more and more important and appreciated over time. Also, it seems as if there is an opportunity to integrate Strategic Planning and Management within the Human Resources field as well. Once well established in a position where I feel comfortable and that the work that I do is well implemented and appreciated, I plan to work very hard in order to move up the ladder and help whichever organizartion I am with succeed and achieve its mission and goals.

One of my goals for this MIT class is to practice as much possible everything that we learned in the first session; there was a lot of information that we went through and I feel that if we do not go over it, it is easy to start loosing some of that information. Another goal that I have for the class is to take note of all the things that I am not familiar with, which apparently is a good portion of what we have learned so far, so that I can have something to reference whenever I get stuck on something. Learning as much possible about Information Technology is also another of my prioritized goals for the class. I would like to be able to take these knowledge and apply it when I go out into the real world. Wether I end up managing an IT department or not, this knowledge will be very helpful in the future to come; especially if I am planning keep my career in Management. Inversting real time in the hiomework and working hard alongside my group members are another set of goals that I have for the course. I believe that it is important to commit yourself to your group so that together we can collaborate, learn from each other, and do a great job.
